Let me set the scene: One chocolate-holic mother. One wrapped chocolate marshmallow bunny sitting on the kitchen counter top for roughly 5 days which belonged to the preschool son. Well, this mother should have remembered a few things before entering this scene.
1) This child is very sensitive and his tender little heart is easily offended.
2) This child is usually pretty willing to share when asked.
3) This child always seems to be checking the trash can at inopportune times. He's a hoarder by nature (generally of junk) and has learned that we periodically toss his treasures so he keeps close tabs on the kitchen trash.
As stated before, I'm a chocolate-holic with a very low sense of self-control. And after lunch and in need of a little sugar rush before I headed off to Sunday oh-how-torturous-afternoon church, I decided that this little bit of candy wouldn't be missed. Really, I should be given a pat on my back for not devouring it the 5 previous day even though I thought about it a few times.
Well, it was consumed and shortly thereafter my trash-sifting child discovered the offense. The initial tears were something behold. But I soon learned they were nothing to his reaction when he finally pried the information out of me as to "who dun it".
He sobbingly inquired of Clark and I? "Which of you ate my candy?"
Not finding much of a way around this question I confessed that I did.
Then . . .
GASP!!! (Yes, I kid you not. He gasped. That was a sight to behold.) He threw this hands to his mouth and I could tell he was overcome with feelings of being shocked and appalled. And then in the most accusatory tone, "Mommy you ate it?!?!?!" Well, this wasn't going to be dropped easily. Forgiveness was going to be hard earned. And gosh darn it, the chocolate wasn't that great anyway. He was still crying 10 minutes later when I walked out the door to choir practice.
Lesson learned. Ask first; I would want the same respect. Jaron, sorry that your mother is such a schmuck. I'm working on it. In the mean time, start hiding your candy!

Kim,
It was so great to talk to you this afternoon. I'm sorry that Faye had to wake up unhappy and cut us off. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your entry about stealing Jaron's chocolate. I didn't even get through the first paragraph when I realized that IIIIIIIIII still had some Easter candy hidden downstairs. My chocolate bunny was consumed while reading the rest of your entry. I'm glad you told Jaron the truth. I probably would have lied and said that Devon ate it.
I wish you well in your Gospel Doctrine teaching endeavors. I am quite behind in my OT readings. Last week after I read about the plagues I shared the one about the frogs with Edmund for our scripture reading and he was very captivated. Even though I'm a little slow about it, I have really enjoyed reading the OT this time around. You'll be a great teacher!
What a great story. I didn't know you were a choco-holice. The gasping was funny.
It sounds to me as if he expected Clark to be the guilty party. Hmmmm.
In our household, suspicion of the dad is usually pretty spot-on.
