We recently had a birthday around here; Jaron turned 7. He felt so lucky since it was on a Saturday and Dad would be around the whole day. Little did he know in the weeks of advanced planning it would be Stake Conference weekend. Good thing he went with the flow of things.
I think the cooliest thing he did on his birthday was help out at event called "HopeKids". It's essentially like a Make-A-Wish for sick kids. They set up monthly events for sick kids and their families to attend something for free as a respite. Jaron's school is connected through this organization and his name was put in a drawing for some reason or other and he was picked as one of the five ambassordors from the school to help out at a movie event.
So Clark, Jaron and Russell went and handed out tickets, popcorn and helped people to their seats. As a bonus they all got a drink, popcorn and got to see the movie for free. What an awesome treat for his birthday because as far as my recollection goes the last time Jaron went to a movie he was maybe two and we didn't buy popcorn or pop. Unsurprisingly, the movie they saw got to be a bit intense for them so they left earlier.
The big excitement/expectation was a new bike. He had really grown out of his new one. This one seems a bit big but he's still growing.

And if you weren't sure already Jaron LOVES winter so he requested a snowflake cake. (I still am not sure how he will survive moving back to Oklahoma. He is totally a cold weather boy and thinks it's hot when the weather is above 60.) My kids have come to expect I can work miracles with cakes, though really I can't. He was gracious about the cake but I later discovered he wanted the whole cake to be in the shape of a snowflake. Now that would have been interesting!
